BIOGRAPHY

The Lovethugs are Pablo Breaks (keys), Jerome Floating (drums), Jim Faulty (guitar/vocals), Carl Martin (bass) and Mudman (percussion).

A fixture on the Norwegian pop scene Oslo's Lovethugs are a psychedelic outfit with an emphasis on colorfully skewed guitar backdrops – their sound evokes a blend of The Doors, vintage Simple Minds, Echo and The Bunnymen, Quicksilver Messenger Service and The Smiths incorporating a rich and complex mix of songwriting and guitarwork, some of which echoes more melodic Hendrix moments. Think Sonic Youth backing the Kinks!  The opening track "A Little Bit of Something" has a chorus that would be a mega-hit in an alternative universe -- but who knows?

As for their name, drummer Jerome says: “We have both former under-age criminals and constantly heartbroken romantics in this band.”

The wise man he say: "The past is another country". And, if this trio of fresh Scando psych pop is anything to go by, the wise man he dead right. 1981, for example, is Norway, and 1966 is Sweden.

Oslo combo The Love Thugs are a surprisingly loquacious second-language blend of decent 80s Britpop - Smiths, Bunneymen, Teardrop - and more noisy sixties rock. Very much the sum of their parts, they make the cut on angularity and chutzpah. Underlining the existence of a corner of some foreign fjord that is forever England.

Rainbow Quartz really has the knack for discovering new bands, from all around the globe, that find their inspiration from the 60s and 70s.  Their stable even includes a group from Montreal, The High Dials, who recently released the highly satisfying album, A New Devotion. This time it's in Oslo, Norway that they found their new recruit. A quintet which, while eyeing the sixties and the psychedelic rock - namely The Doors (more musically than vocally), The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix (at his most melodic moments like Castle Made of Sand) - , also occasionally finds inspiration from the eighties, with references like Echo and the Bunnymen (What's the Season). But it is especially when they favor their  partiality towards sixties rock that the musicians are the most convincing. A Little bit of Something is a good example, with its unbeatable melodic hook.
